The Alison J Walsh Award for Outstanding Environmental Advocacy is named after Alison Walsh, a former Save The Bay staff member who dedicated her life to environmental activism in her hometown, throughout the Narragansett Bay watershed and New England.
Stephanie Santos’ activism embodies the tenacious advocacy of Alison Walsh. Stephanie is a nurse at Miriam Hospital with a passion for the environment, both inside and outside the hospital. Stephanie serves as chair of Miriam’s Green Team, serves as chair of Lincoln’s Conservation Commission and has been involved in many environmental advocacy projects to reduce plastic pollution and advance sustainability. She bridges public health and environmental stewardship through hands-on cleanups, conservation initiatives, and community engagement. Stephanie (along with her son, Matty, a BayCamper) has testified at the State House in support of the bottle bill and has worked with Friends of the Blackstone to install and maintain a litter interceptor (aka “water goat”) on the Blackstone River.
