Save The Bay is looking for high school students (grades 9-12) to join our Student Advisory Committee (SAC)! The SAC is a youth-led group that helps to provide a student voice in our education team’s continuing goal of creating engaged environmental citizens and future bay stewards. The committee focuses on environmental action civics by identifying a local environmental concern, researching its causes and effects, and identifying potential solutions.
Our meetings will be held once a month on Fridays from 4-5:30pm, in-person, at the Save The Bay Center in Providence (100 Save The Bay Drive).
Attendance at each meeting is expected. Participants are permitted to miss up to 2 meetings, with the expectation that online work (ex: reviewing meeting notes, prompt email response, completing post-meeting data collection, etc.) will be completed to stay up-to-date in our process. This year’s meeting dates are: Oct. 23, Nov. 20, Dec. 11, Jan. 22, Feb. 26, Mar. 19, Apr. 30 and May 21. May 21 will be our year-end celebration. Attendance at the celebration is required.
Participating as an active member of this committee will provide you with:
- At least 10-15 hours of participation (potentially used as school-required service hours, pending school approval)
- An opportunity to grow your leadership and environmental advocacy knowledge and skills
- Networking opportunities with other high school students from around the state, Save The Bay staff, and expert guest speakers from community partners
- A Save The Bay seal tour for you and another passenger
- Food provided at evening meetings
