Artists for The Bay Show & Sale to showcase local art and jewelry on November 29

Save The Bay’s annual Artists for The Bay Show & Sale Opening Reception will be held Thursday, Nov. 29 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Bay Center in Providence. Creative works by more than 60 local artists, sculptors and jewelers will be on display and for sale. Guests will discover a variety of artwork, ranging from elegant seascapes to handcrafted jewelry. All participating artists are generously donating 50 percent of all sales to support Save The Bay’s advocacy, education and restoration work.

In January 1970, at the end of a five-hour town council meeting, a sole voice of opposition stood against an otherwise unanimous vote to renew a permit. The renewal, requested by the Northeast Petroleum Refinery, Inc. was the company’s first step toward building an oil refinery in Tiverton, R.I. The voice of opposition belonged to a new councilwoman, Louise Durfee.

Save The Bay names Elizabeth Beisel swim ambassador

Two-time Olympic medalist and Saunderstown native Elizabeth Beisel has been named Swim Ambassador for the 42nd Annual Save The Bay Swim. In her capacity as Swim Ambassador, Beisel will welcome swimmers and present awards, lead youth swim clinics, share swim training tips, and participate in the 1.7-nautical-mile challenge across the Bay.

Save The Bay launches volunteer citizen Water Reporter Program

Save The Bay invites community members to become volunteer Water Reporters, helping Save The Bay fight pollution and other watershed issues around the state. The Water Reporter Program is a social network of community volunteers who use the Water Reporter App to share photographic observations of water and shoreline conditions with Save The Bay’s Waterkeepers.
