Joe Mariani’s dedication to environmental education and a healthy Narragansett Bay is unwavering. He is a tireless advocate, volunteer, and connector, bringing learners of all ages closer to the Bay. Through his role at Bristol Marine, Joe has created meaningful partnerships with schools and organizations to bring students onto Narragansett Bay for immersive, hands-on learning.
Joe’s collaboration with North Providence High School’s Career & Tech Marine Trades program and Save The Bay gave students the opportunity to board the M/V Alletta Morris, travel to Bristol Marine, and participate in activities like pressure washing, engine work, and hauling out vessels—experiences that brought classroom lessons to life. He has expanded this impact by working with the IYRS School of Technology & Trades to offer adult learners similar on-the-water experiences. Last summer, IYRS students boarded the M/V Rosemary Quinn and participated in the haul-out and servicing of M/V Elizabeth Morris and M/V Rosemary Quinn respectively at Bristol Marine. Thanks to full funding by Bristol Marine, this program is free for both IYRS and Save The Bay, making it an accessible and invaluable educational opportunity.
Joe also partnered with the Rhode Island Marine Trade Association (RIMTA), Toll Gate High School and Save The Bay to launch another marine tech experience for high school students. This fully funded, full-day program starts at the Providence Education Center, where students board the M/V Alletta Morris and explore marine trades careers through hands-on exposure out on the Bay.
In addition to his educational work, Joe supports Save The Bay’s Bay Islands Cleanup Program. Last year, Bristol Marine employees removed 284 pounds of trash from Dyer Island with help from Save The Bay’s Volunteer & Intern Program. Another cleanup is already planned for September 2025.
