2022 Bay Student of the Year Award
Leandro Luna-Bisono
Student at Roger Williams Middle School (Providence, R.I.)
Leandro is a middle school student from Roger Williams Middle School who attended both our fall and winter afterschool sessions this school year through the Providence After School Alliance (PASA).
Leandro has a lot of passion for marine science and his enthusiasm in our programs is contagious. He attended each afterschool program (Tuesdays and Thursdays) from October 2021 through April 2022.
Each class, he welcomed us with a huge smile and eagerness to know what he would be learning about the Bay that day. He loved all of our explorations of the shoreline and especially enjoyed spending time at our touch tanks learning about animals.
Not only was he a model student, but he also helped translate and teach some of his fellow students when there was a language barrier between our instructors and the class. He and his brother would share stories about their time in the Dominican Republic and talk about all the marine life, fishing stories and seafood cuisine they grew up knowing.
