Save the Bay accuses CRMC of power abuse for canceling controversial seawall meetings

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. – November 25, 2024 – Save the Bay executive director Topher Hamblett is accusing the Coastal Resources Management Council of intentionally delaying a key meeting that could determine the fate of a controversial seawall in North Kingstown.

The Quidnessett Country Club said it built the the 600-foot rock wall in December 2022 to protect its property from further erosion.

But both Save the Bay and the Attorney General Peter Neronha argue that the club built it illegally and without the permission of the regulatory board.

Now, the club is asking the council to change the property’s water type so they can keep the wall.

“This is one of the classic ‘don’t seek permission, ask for forgiveness later’ situations,” Hamblett said. “The council should not be engaged in that kind of action.”…Click here to read the full article.
