What Makes Us Different

We’re not your average aquarium.

All animals come from, or are found in Narragansett Bay, the Rhode Island Sound, and the freshwater rivers, streams, and ponds of Rhode Island. Most of our animals are temporary guests and are returned to their natural habitat after a brief stay at the Aquarium.

Some animals are non-releasable due to displacement or injury. These animals are given expert care and are now animal ambassadors for their species through our education programs.

We are a net positive aquarium — not just by caring for animals, but by giving back to the Bay. We breed little skates, northern lined seahorses, and chain catsharks, which support local populations.
