Seasonal Captain/Education Specialist

Director of Education

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Save The Bay is seeking a unique individual who is a passionate educator and an experienced mariner to join its education team for 15-25 hours per week. As a member of Save The Bay’s education team you will work with the Lead Captain to ensure safe and efficient operation of STB vessels while being an active educator for our school based, public boat programs and camp programs. Responsibilities are divided among Captain and Educator responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master United States Coast Guard 50 Gross Tons Near Coastal License
  • Excellent knowledge of USCG regulations
  • First Aid/CPR certification required
  • Knowledge and experience navigating Narragansett Bay (preferred)
  • Background working with children
  • Strong interest in environmental education
  • Must enjoy working with children and the general public
  • Must enjoy working outdoors despite extremely sunny, hot, or rainy conditions
  • Available to work a varied schedule including weekends
  • Must be a team-oriented person who is flexible and outgoing
  • BCI check required
  • Must submit to random drug testing program throughout the year

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure all onboard navigation, collection and teaching equipment aboard education vessels are operational and stowed. Inform Lead Captain and Director of Education of any deficiencies and arrange for their repair or replacement.
  • As needed, participate in on-the-water support for other STB programs and events

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

$25/hour based on experience.
